In honor of “Love Data Week” (Feb, 11-15, 2019), Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) is promoting a unique experience for individuals to “adopt a dataset.” This no-cost, no-mess adoption allows the individual to select a dataset hosted by ICPSR and get to know it, if you will.
As ICPSR states, “Your role is to bring your dataset to life by learning about the information it contains and introducing it to anyone who hasn’t met it before (by sharing via email and social media).”
To make sharing the news of your data adoption even easier, you can use pre-written messages for social media sights.
For example, I am the proud adopter of the dataset “USDA Forest Service Photographs from the Calhoun Experimental Forest, South Carolina, 1932 – 1987.” As a forestry nerd, it planted the seed to learn more about this vast undertaking. I’ve now shares my data discovery using ICPSR’s templates — and have tweeted and posted to LinkedIn about this new acquisition in my life!
There is still a bit of time left to adopt — until 4:00PM EST February 16! ICPSR’s Adopt a Dataset page will give you the details and a link to the quick and simple adoption form.
Thanks to the folks at #ICPSR for sponsoring this initiative!
