In honor of “Love Data Week,” the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) promoted a unique experience for individuals to “adopt a dataset.” This no-cost, no-mess adoption allowed individuals to select a dataset hosted by ICPSR and get to know it.
As ICPSR states, “Your role is to bring your dataset to life by learning about the information it contains and introducing it to anyone who hasn’t met it before (by sharing via email and social media).”
- Sharing the news of your data adoption was made easier with pre-written messages for social media sites.
- For example, adopting the dataset “USDA Forest Service Photographs from the Calhoun Experimental Forest, South Carolina, 1932 – 1987” sparked further exploration into this historical resource and provided an opportunity to share the discovery on LinkedIn using ICPSR’s suggested templates.
- The adoption deadline was 4:00 PM EST, February 16, with all the details available on ICPSR’s Adopt a Dataset page, including a quick and simple adoption form.
Special thanks to the folks at #ICPSR for sponsoring this initiative!
