FireOak’s favorite ideas for intranet content for November 2024:
National Entrepreneurship Month
Entrepreneurship Month is an event that honors the initiative, originality, and courage that drives people to launch new businesses and projects. It’s a time to support and assist aspiring entrepreneurs while recognizing the accomplishments of existing ones. President Obama started National Entrepreneurship Month in November in 2011. The following year, November 6 was declared as National Entrepreneurs’ Day, with the goal of inspiring and empowering entrepreneurs. Read more about it in the White House’s Proclamation on National Entrepreneurship Month for 2024.
For your intranet, consider these activities:
- Create a resource hub dedicated to entrepreneurial resources: Include articles, videos, and tools that can help aspiring entrepreneurs develop their skills and knowledge.
- Share success stories: Share success stories of initiatives or innovations that brought your organization to the next level.
Celebrating National Entrepreneurship Month acknowledges the spirit of creativity and innovation in the business world, encouraging people to follow their entrepreneurial passions and contribute to economic development and innovation in your company.
National Stress Awareness Day (November 6)
On the first Wednesday of November, people observe National Stress Awareness Day. The goal of this day is to raise awareness of stress, how it affects health, and offer strategies to reduce stress levels. November 6th encourages people to pay attention to their mental health and take care of themselves, and you can use your intranet to support it.
For National Stress Awareness Day, consider the following ideas:
- Stress-Relief Tips: Post news offering tips and techniques for reducing stress, such as mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques, or simple desk stretches.
- Interactive Polls or Quizzes: Create polls or quizzes related to stress awareness and stress management to encourage reflection.
- Virtual Stress Awareness Workshops or Webinars: Host virtual workshops or webinars on stress management topics, such as work-life balance.
- Remind staff of EAPs or other mental health resources: If your organization has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), remind staff about the these or other mental health resources that your company offers.
- Mindfulness Challenges: Organize a mindfulness challenge for employees, encouraging them to practice mindfulness techniques daily and share their experiences. Use your intranet to post a technique of the day or week.
Thanksgiving (November 28)
Supporting the spirit of Thanksgiving in November, on a company intranet, can help foster a sense of gratitude and community among employees. By promoting Thanksgiving, you create opportunities for employees to share what they are thankful for, both personally and professionally. This fosters a sense of community and builds stronger bonds among team members.
Here are some ways to recognize Thanksgiving on your intranet:
- Gratitude Wall: Create a virtual “gratitude wall” where employees can post messages of thanks and appreciation for their colleagues or the company.
- Thanksgiving Recipes: Share Thanksgiving themed recipes contributed by employees to create a sense of shared celebration.
- Thanksgiving Activities: Organize virtual Thanksgiving activities, such as a trivia game, a virtual potluck, or a Thanksgiving-themed photo contest.
- Volunteer Initiatives: Promote volunteer opportunities during the month of November, encouraging employees to give back to the community.
By incorporating some of these elements into your company intranet, you can help employees feel appreciated and connected during the Thanksgiving holiday season.
Remote Work Wellness Tips for Colder Months
It can be hard to maintain physical and mental health when working from home, especially in the winter season. To help you and your employees’ well-being, here are some content tips that you can use for creating content for your company intranet.
Here are some remote work wellness tips to promote on your company intranet:
- To work well and stay healthy, you need a comfortable and productive workspace. A warm, well-lit, and ergonomic workspace can help you prevent discomfort and work better. Provide some simple suggestions for optimizing a home office on your intranet.
- Staying hydrated and eating well are key to supporting your overall health. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and foods that boost the immune system is crucial. Your intranet is a great place to share recipes and nutrition tips.
- Managing stress is equally important, especially in winter when the days are shorter. Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, or deep breathing exercises can be effective in relieving stress and maintaining focus. See our section above about Stress Awareness Day for additional suggestions.
Working remotely, especially in colder months, means staying connected with colleagues, friends, and others is important. Use your intranet to set up virtual meetings or calls with colleagues to help maintain social connections and prevent feelings of isolation.
Employee Generated Content
No one knows the workings of a company better than its employees, and their feedback and creativity will contribute to the business’s success. Use the intranet to give employee various opportunities and mechanisms to share their ideas and make their voices count. Asking employees to contribute content on your intranet is a great way to show staff that their experiences, feedback, and work experiences are valued by leadership and the whole organization.
Ask staff to write news articles or success stories that highlight their experiences. Or, if your organization prefers more interactive experiences, organize a virtual webinar, information session, or Q&A where staff members share their experiences.
By inviting employees to share their insights and even best practices, you not only foster a culture of collaboration but also inspire others to learn from their peers and contribute to the collective growth of the organization.
