Intranet Content Ideas for September

September is a month of growth, learning, and celebration. From Self-Improvement Month to HR Professionals Day, this month has several events that can be leveraged through your company’s intranet to engage with staff. Plus, here are a few other ideas for using your organization’s intranet to have a positive impact on staff members’ personal and professional lives.

FireOak’s favorite ideas for intranet content for September:

Self-Improvement Month

September is Self-Improvement Month and a great time for your organization to champion the personal development and growth of its employees. It’s an opportunity for individuals to reflect on their goals, habits, and areas for improvement, and to take proactive steps toward self-improvement.

To support Self-Improvement Month on your company intranet, you can:

  • Share health and wellness resources. Provide your staff members with articles, videos, and podcasts on self-improvement topics like goal setting, time management, and personal development.
  • Host optional webinars or virtual workshops. Organize a few virtual events on self-improvement, feature a guest speaker, or internal experts.
  • Launch a self-improvement challenge. Your intranet is a great platform to promote self-improvement initiatives. It’s best to keep a self-improvement challenge voluntary; allow staff to sign-up if they want to participate. Throughout the event, post news and updates to keep staff informed and generate interest for next year.

For added encouragement, allow staff members to comment and provide feedback during self-improvement specific initiatives.

Buy a Book Day (September 7)

The first Saturday in September is Buy a Book Day, a day dedicated to the love of reading. This event can be a wonderful chance to support writers, local and independent bookshops, the publishing industry, and reading. Your organization can offer ways for staff members to join in book swaps, bring in books for donation, and maybe encourage colleagues to try a genre they don’t know well.

Use the intranet to promote “staff pick” reading lists, the local libraries, and even think about hosting a book club or reading challenge using your intranet as the center.

Your company intranet not only serves as a communication tool, but also a meeting spot and resource repository.  It should be stressed that buying a new book isn’t needed, just reading or recommending a book to colleagues is sufficient.

By celebrating Buy a Book Day using your company intranet, you can foster a love of reading among employees and create a culture that values learning and personal enrichment. Bonus: Sharing information about books may help to encourage other information sharing within your organization.

Human Resources Professionals Day (September 26)

September 26 is Human Resources Professional Day, a day to acknowledge the efforts and commitment of HR professionals in helping your organization and its staff. It’s a day to acknowledge HR’s function in hiring, onboarding and offboarding, and their role in developing a positive workplace culture.

A few ideas to highlight Human Resources Professional Day on your company intranet:

  • HR as a Career Path: In celebration of Human Resources Professional Day, highlight the diverse and rewarding career path that HR offers. Showcasing the various roles within HR and the potential for growth and development can inspire current and prospective employees to consider a fulfilling career in human resources.
  • Employee Spotlight: Highlight your HR employees, what they do, their years of service, and any other information they are willing to share.
  • Future Plans: Share any future plans or new initiatives sponsored by the HR department. By sharing these plans and goals, it demonstrates the department’s commitment to continuous improvement within the company.

International Podcast Day (September 30)

Every year, September 30th is the day to recognize the power and impact of podcasts and how they affect listeners worldwide. The aim of International Podcast Day is to spread the word about podcasts and to highlight the medium as a useful way of telling stories, educating, and entertaining.

In celebration of International Podcast Day, encourage podcast listeners to share details about their favorite podcasts on your intranet, so coworkers can discover new shows.

If your organization has its own podcast, don’t forget to use the intranet to promote it! .

Technology Updates

Technology tools and platforms are changing rapidly. It’s important to keep staff members informed about updates and changes, and also share best practices and tips and tricks. The intranet is a great mechanism for this type of knowledge sharing. Use the intranet to post news, updates, announcements, video snippets, recorded brown bag sessions, and more.

Although tech updates aren’t specific to the month of September, the combination of back-to-school season and Self-Improvement Month make September a perfect time to encourage staff to learn new things about your organization’s tech stack!

Other Ideas

Other ideas to potentially incorporate into September’s intranet content or internal communication campaigns:

  • September 2: Labor Day
  • September 8: International Literacy Day
  • September 21: International Day of Peace
  • September 23: International Day of Sign Languages
  • September 25: National Cookie Day
